Identify 18K before weighing

18K gold is 75% gold and 25% alloy metals. It is the premium grade for fine jewellery and watches in Europe, and is used for white, yellow and rose gold depending on the alloy mix. Stamps include 750, 18K, 18ct and 18KT. White gold pieces are usually rhodium-plated, so the colour does not reveal the karat — always check the stamp. Read the complete stamp: a plated or filled qualifier means the full weight cannot be valued as a solid 18K alloy. A worn mark is not a laboratory result. Use net metal weight, not the whole object

18K balances a rich colour with good wear resistance, which makes it the choice for engagement rings, luxury watches and designer jewellery. Italian and French jewellery is commonly 18K. The nominal factor is 0.75, so each net gram contains about 75.00% gold. We divide the fine-gold spot ounce by 31.1034768, multiply by your weight and then by this factor. A common 750 stamp and an exact karat fraction can differ slightly; for a binding settlement, an accepted assay is more precise. Compare offers without guessing a standard percentage
