How scrap gold value works
The spot price is quoted for pure (24K, .999 fine) gold per troy ounce. Jewellery alloys contain other metals — 14K is 58.3% gold, 18K is 75%, 22K is 91.7%. Multiply the item's gram weight by its karat purity to get the pure-gold weight, then by the live per-gram spot price.
